As a special treat to recognise their last year at Civil Service mini rugby, CSRFC kindly allocated tickets to the P7 group to go to the Ireland vs Italy Six Nations match on March 8th 2014.
To add to the excitement, this turned out to be the great Brian O’Driscoll’s last international match on Irish soil.
Shaun McMorran, our Club President, arranged for us to first visit Sportslink in Dublin (the Republic of Ireland’s equivalent civil service sports facility to NICSSA). After two hours in their swimming complex (water slides, a wave pool and lazy river… we kid you not) and lunch, we then departed for the Aviva.
The match of course was stunning, with the great man setting up three tries. But more than that, our mini rugby kids had a rugby experience they will never forget. Everyone would like to pass on a huge thank you to CSRFC and the mini section. Some of these boys have played with Civil Service for 8 years (yes, starting at 2 years old!) and now go to ‘big school’ with very fond memories and a real connection to the club. Let’s hope we see many of them progress into Junior rugby at the club, or return as adult members.
Quote of the day (as we walked into the stadium and saw 51,500 people). One of our kids turned to another and said “We’re not at Ravenhill anymore.”
