Orchard House Golf Society Captain’s Day Outing to Ballyliffin Golf Club – September 2017.
Widely regarded as the finest links golf complex in Ireland and host venue for the 2018 Irish Open, Ballyliffin Golf Club on the breathtaking Inishowen peninsula in County Donegal was the setting for the Orchard House Golf Society annual Captain’s Day outing.
Ballyliffin Golf Club consists of two outstanding courses; The Old Links and The Glashedy which provides expansive panoramic views of the local countryside, back-dropped by the Donegal coastline and the North Atlantic Ocean. Golfers teed off on The Old Links course which has recently had work undertaken by former World Number 1 and six Major Championships winner, Nick Faldo.
After an overcast start weather conditions improved and were nigh on perfect for the golfers; it came as no surprise that it was the more experienced golfers who came to the fore when the prizes were being handed out, with 2017 Society Captain Sean Glackin (7) claiming first place with 32 points. Society newcomer Gary Simpson claimed the runners up spot with 30 points. Dominic Murray was a close third on 29 points. Fourth spot went to veteran Martin Rafferty (25 pts) with 2017 Society President Desmond Roulstone claiming fifth spot with 24 points.
Winner of the ‘nines’ were Aidan Graham (Front 9) and Dermot McDermott (Back 9)
As well as the major winners all society members who played on the day received a prize, so no-one left empty handed. The post round meal and drinks was provided in the resort’s Linx Restaurant after which the prize giving ceremony was carried out to much mirth and merriment.
