START YOUR NEW YEAR – GET OUTSIDE, GET RUNNING AND JOIN NICSAC

Want to get fit in 2016?

Want to relieve the daily stress?

Want a better work/life balance?

The Northern Ireland Civil Service Athletics Club (NICSAC) has been running (literally) for 20 years. We have members of all abilities – from beginners who run to keep fit and socialise, through to competitive athletes.

The one thing we all have in common is the first time we took the initiative to try our first run with the club – and the rest is history.

No matter what your goal is – regular exercise, meeting new people, a fun run, parkrun, 10k, half marathon or marathon –NICSAC will help you get there.

Why take the plunge?

When you have a busy life fitting exercise in to your day can be a problem. But by making a little time to run before, during or after work, can reap many benefits for your health and well-being.

What are the benefits of joining NICSAC?

  1. You get a new garment of ‘Club Kit’ every year as part of your £10 membership fee.
  2.  Your family members / friends can join as associate members.
  3.  There are male and female club competitions.
  4.  We take an annual European club trip with options to run marathon / half marathon / 10k.
  5.  You can get involved with NI Athletics as we host two events on the athletics calendar each year – Stormont Cross Country and Portaferry 10k. You can participate with the organisation of the events, run in the club vest or help out marshalling.
  6.  There are great discounts for all the family through NICSSA.
  7.  Join the fun at our annual Christmas Awards Dinner.
  8.  But most important of all, the craíc is great!!

Sounds good? Here’s how you join:

Complete the NICSAC membership form including your NICSSA membership number and forward it with a £10 annual membership fee to a NICSAC Committee Member. For further information on the club and how to join, see our website or contact:

Mervyn Chambers   (Club Secretary)                                          ext 88602

Mags Mathieson      (Events Coordinator)                                  ext 59692

Naomhín McGarrity (Communications Coordinator)              ext 22517

When and where do we run?

Given the geographical spread of the NI Civil Service, it’s difficult to have a set training day for members. A lot of our members based on the Stormont Estate arrange to run together at lunchtime during the week.  The club would encourage people to do this no matter where your work base is.  We can help put you in touch with others who are keen to buddy up for a run wherever you’re based.

I don’t want to join a club – I just want to run a race:

If club membership is not for you, why not set your goal to train and compete in one of NICSAC’s club events this year. You can choose from:

Stormont Cross Country – Saturday 27 February 2016

Open to all runners – you don’t have to be in a running club to enter this event. Categories include boys and girls – primary school, U13, U15, U17, U20, men open / veterans, women open / veterans.

Belfast City Marathon – Monday 2 May 2016

In addition to the main relay event, NICSAC host a relay competition for civil servant teams. Prizes are awarded for the fastest male, female and mixed teams.  There’s plenty of time to encourage your colleagues to get a team together, train for this event and get involved in N.Ireland’s biggest race of the year.  It’s a great opportunity to get sponsorship for your favourite charity too. Portaferry 10 Mile road race – Tuesday 19 July 2016

An established event and one of the best road race fixtures at this classic distance in Northern Ireland. It also includes a five mile relay that is growing in popularity.

Remember 2016 as the year you made it happen – as a famous sports giant says – Just do it!
